Brett openly admires the Old Masters, but believes it is important as a contemporary artist not to be bound by tradition. He would describe his paintings as a ‘modern interpretation of the genre’. They have a traditional underlying structure, but the vibrancy, colours and subject matter of more contemporary work.
This new collection is in oil, which has presented fresh challenges to Brett Humphries. He explains “Switching to oil had advantages and disadvantages. Oil is thicker so you can get deeper and more realistic textures. But more thickness means more visible brushstrokes. You don’t want that in a photorealistic painting.” Come in a see the results for yourself.
We're excited to be showing Brett Humphries long awaited exhibition of stunning and superbly crafted hyper real still lives. Brett's work is influenced by old masters but from a modern perspective. Brett Humphries last exhibition was a sell out. Don't miss this in November.
The still life is over 400 years old. Brett seeks to bring a modern sensibility to his arrangements. “I look for a modern interpretation of the genre, with the light, colours and subjects of more contemporary work.”
Brett Humphries' modern approach to still life painting has resulted in some colourful compositions. The interesting subjects he has chosen to paint invite a much closer look at his exquisitely executed paintings.
The end results of Brett’s input are scintillating, mind-boggling in fact." Iain Barratt
