Eric Roux-Fontaine was born in 1966 in the Savoy region of france and received his art education at the fine art school of Saint-Etienne. He travelled widely as a young man throughout central America, India and eastern Europe and it was during this time he first began sketching the flora and fauna that now forms the backdrop to many of his paintings. Eric now resides in Fontainebleau, just outside paris. His work has been widely exhibited throughout Europe and in the US. This will be his first solo exhibition in the UK.
Roux-Fontaine says one of his artistic aims is to try to forge a connection between the everyday and the fantastical. His dreamlike paintings are a lush mix of realistic and surreal motifs. They combine lavish interior elements, armchairs, chandeliers and gothic windows with exterior backgrounds depicting jungle and vegetation.
He cites Eugene Delacroix as a great inspiration but also contemporary painters like Peter Doig and Miquel Barcelo.
