We’ve always noticed how much people love seeing paintings of their local area. There’s a comforting familiarity to seeing roads and landmarks you know very well being captured forever on canvas. So we’re thrilled to present our new exhibition ‘Ham & High’ featuring paintings exclusively of Hampstead and Highgate.
Even though the gallery has been in Hampstead for nearly 40 years this is the first time we’ve done this. It feels long overdue!
This area boasts a rich artistic history stretching back hundreds of years. John Constable and Sir George Romney both lived and painted in Hampstead in the 18th century. And by the early 20th century the region had become the country’s artistic centre. Among those residing here were Roland Penrose, Lee Miller, Piet Mondrian, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and Walter Gropius.
So, with over 12 different artists involved, we are delighted to present a show featuring original works of art in a variety of styles and media. We believe it is a perfect celebration of this beautiful part of London.
