Sea paintings by Ramsay Gibb & other artists
Sea paintings by Ramsay Gibb & other artists runs from 9th – 31st August
Also on show this summer is a series of new paintings of the sea by highly-collected artist Ramsay Gibb. Ramsay’s haunting, elemental paintings sit proudly in the grand tradition of British landscape painting. His time on the Sussex coast stimulated his interest in landscape - an interest deepened by his move to East Anglia. He now lives in Lancashire but has travelled and painted in Shetland, the Hebrides, the Nordics, Greenland and Russia.
For the last two years Ramsay has spent time exploring and painting one element; the sea. In this show we have his new series of paintings. Ramsay says of his work: “The sea makes great demands of a painter - it is always just beyond capturing in static paint. There is no single characteristic of sea water, it is foam, bubbles, stretched, compressed, sheer, chaotic and often all of these simultaneously.”
In addition to Ramsay’s paintings will be new water-themed works by Mark Godwin, Haydn Cottam and Ali Esmaeilipour.
